Food For Thought

Bride: The two best things I cook are meatloaf and apple dumplings.

Groom: Well, which is this?

Hi,

My name is Derek. I am a seventh grade student at Silver Creek Middle School. I play on the seventh grade basketball team and we finished the season 18-4. I enjoy talking to friends and watching any sports, especially football and basketball.

I would like to thank you for showing so much courage and for all that you are doing for our country. I would like to share some scriptures that may mean something to you or help you through your hard times.

If you indeed obey His voice
and do all that he speaks,
then he will be an enemy to your enemies
and an adversary to your adversaries.
- Exodus 23:22

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and His ears are open to their prayers;
but the face of the LORD
is against all those who do evil.
And who is he who will harm you
if you become followers of what is good?
- 1 Peter 3:12, 13

Brain Teaser

What man in the Bible said the following, and where was he when he said it? (Answer at bottom of page.)

"In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God."

Good News From Home

On The Economy: Even though manufacturing jobs have been lost in Indiana, RV’s are riding high. Nearly 90 percent of all RVs are made in the Hoosier state and there has been a 27 percent increase in revenue from 2002 to 2003. GO Baby-boomers!

The new Frazier Historical Arms Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, has acquired George Washington’s flintlock rifle. It is the only long gun owned by America’s first president that is known to still exist. The five-foot, .44-caliber hunting rifle was probably presented as a gift to Washington at his Mount Vernon estate in 1791.

Good news for the court system! President Bush just appointed William H. Pryor Jr., the Alabama Attorney General, to serve on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of appeals based in Atlanta. We think having Judge Pryor, who is a Christian, on the bench, will be an improvement to our judicial system.

Kayla Kime, a local 12 year old, and cousin of Ben and Jessica, was missing for several days, but was found in Mexico safe and unharmed. She is now back home with her family.

Ben’s boy scout troop won the Klondike Derby last week. This is an outdoor event, but was done without snow this year.

Need a Porsche?

A woman offered a brand-new Porsche for sale for a price of ten dollars. A man answered the ad, but he was slightly disbelieving.

"What's the gimmick?" he inquired.

"No gimmick," the woman answered. "My husband died, and in his will he asked that the car be sold and the money go to his secretary."

Brainteaser Answer

Jonah was speaking to God from inside the great fish - See Jonah 2:1-6

Psalm 91

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, "He is my God in whom I trust."

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
And from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day,
Nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
Nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
Ten thousand at your right hand,
But it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
And see the punishment of the wicked.

If you make the Most High your dwelling-
Even the Lord, who is my refuge-
Then no harm will befall you,
No disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
To guard you in all your ways;
They will lift you up in their hands,
So that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
You will trample the great lion and the serpent.

"Because he loves me," says the Lord,
"I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him
And show him my salvation."

God is the source of all energy, of all forms of,
Life…it is a great source of peace and comfort to
Focus our minds on the thought that God is
Continually sustaining us with His love,
Continually ready to revitalize our souls.
- Norman Vincent Peale
